MENDON —
"An indoor skate park will go before the Board of Selectmen tonight to ask for an entertainment license.

Rad Skatepark, of 49 Uxbridge St., has applied for an entertainment license to have live music, said Town Coordinator Dale Pleau. The skate park recently opened, he said.

"They have a Web site with videos up and people in town have been looking at this mosh type of stuff, some people aren't familiar with it and were caught off-guard," Pleau said.

Moshing sometimes happens at live music performances where people aggressively slam or push into one another.

Rad Skatepark already has a business certificate from the town clerk, Pleau said. Town officials will put an occupancy limit on the building, as is done with all buildings, Pleau said.

"The building inspector has the call on that," he said. "Beyond that, they want an entertainment license to operate and (we'll see) what sort of entertainment they want to do."

Parks Commissioner Joe Flaherty said he is glad to see a skate park coming to town.

"It's a good thing for the young people in town, for them to have something to do," he said. "We're always in favor of more opportunities for them and I know Mendon did not have a skate park (for a while) and kids had to go to other towns."

Selectmen will also make appointments for the new fiscal year at tonight's meeting, Pleau said. There are about 75 positions up for reappointment.
